The internet has caught Kelly O’Dwyer out being liberal ( :-) ) with the truth. She joins a growing list of LNP MP’s who’ve been caught out deliberately misleading the Australian public.

On Friday, O’Dwyer tweeted a picture of herself, fellow LNP mouthpiece Erica Betz and a small business owner who was allegedly shutting his antique shop because of the current government’s policies.

Here’s her initial tweet:

A picture says a thousand words http://twitpic.com/9m6no4

And here is the photo that accompanied the tweet:

Liar, Liar Kelly O’Dwyer

The picture speaks for itself. A business having a “Thanks To Julia Closing Down Sale”.

O’Dwyer then posted a follow up tweet:

Business downsizes from 2 shops to 1. reduces staff from 3 to 0. Owner unhappy with Gillard Gov policy IR, Super and Carbon Tax

O’Dwyer has now joined fellow Liberal Party member, Julie Bishop who also got caught lying by Twitter users (see Julie Bishop Gets Caught Trying To Rewrite History on Twitter).

Twitter user @elliotg78 discovered that the business isn’t closing down at all. He did this by simply checking the businesses website where the following was posted:

Recently my original showroom, three doors down (1425 Malvern Road), became available again and as I hold the lease I’ve stocked it until relet.

Over the last four years I’ve been wanting to open another shop but not in Malvern as the mix of industrial, retro, glass and unusual items doesn’t quite fit this area.

I have called it Shop2 and will until further notice.

Shop2 is closing down as most stock is sold and now subletting, so having a clearance sale! (source: Allpress Antiques)

So, the business is not shutting down at all. It’s moving 3 shops down (from 1419 Malvern Rd, Malvern to 1425 Malvern Rd). As the premises at 1419 had been sublet, they were having a clearance sale. This sale had nothing at all to do with any government policies.

After the truth had come out, the business owner claimed it was “black humour”. Maybe, but why pose for a photo with Liberal Party members then? We won’t hold our breath waiting for an answer to that one.

The story then went viral, being retweeted many times by many users. Strangely (not), both O’Dwyer and Abetz have remained silent on Twitter since being caught out.

Don’t worry though, I’m sure when they think that the issue has died down, they will be back sprouting their familiar bullshit.

Sadly for them though, the internet has a long memory. Far longer than that of the dweebs that would actually vote for either of these morons and their colleagues.

  1. The accc needs to be told this , report the links to the accc

    • The owner claims it was “black humour” though. Unlikely to get punished. The stunt has attracted enough bad publicity to make him think twice about doing something similar again though.

  2. The Liberals have form with the selective use of photos for political gain, for example “Children Overboard” comes to mind.

  3. Thanks for this story. I have tweeted it to my followers and Ms ODwyer. Don’t expect a response.

  4. Good reporting dirty Lying Politics and caught out good show.

    • Thanks Paul. The more we can expose these lying scum the better off the nation will be. The real hero though is Elliott Giakalis (@ElliottG78 on Twitter). It was he who exposed the story yesterday who deserves all the credit.

  5. Great catch. But I wish to question your use of the kinda silly and outdated “Erica Betz” nickname. (Done to death by Crikey in 2000s.) Why be one of those guys who thinks that feminine = insult? Also, nothing can make Eric Abetz look any more stupid than he already is.

    • You’re right Helen, it was a cheap shot.
There is no such thng as too much ridicule that can be directed at Abtez and his colleagues though.

  6. Dan, I’m no fan of the modern Liberal Party either.

Reading the story in a slightly different way, is it possible that the business owner manipulated his local member over their mutual need for publicity? Why pay for your own ads when you can blame “Julia”, and more publicity than you could’ve hoped for at a cost of $0. Thank you Kelly, thank you Eric, thank you Dan.

    • Hi Andrew, nice to see you at The Derp. I’m a big fan of Politically Homeless BTW.

You’re right about the free publicity he’s getting from all of this. Whether any of it actually helps his business is another matter.

From the feedback on Twitter and Facebook it doesn’t seem to have done O’Dwyer or Abetz any good though.

  7. Interesting story … either way, both the business owner and the two Liberal MPs don’t come off smelling too clean.
