The lunar right of his party are starting to salivate. The internal revolt against his paid maternity scheme packaged as a parental leave plan is an example. His clumsy use of the term ‘women of calibre’ distracted attention from the rebellion on his right flank. The party ideologues have plans for the workers of this country alright and Abbott won’t be able to stand in their way. It is not Tony Abbott we should be afraid of but those bent on extreme action. That said I remain convinced that the coalition will not win the election. Why? Because fears about the liberals’ plans to make hated changes to workplace laws remain entrenched. Abbott is not trusted. Why would anyone believe him when he says Work Choices are dead and buried. Besides his attempts to to calm fears by saying that any changes will not occur during his first term. Phew that’s alright then. I doubt somehow though that supporters of Work Choices are going to wait three years for its resurrection.

It was not good. The poor woman is clearly out of her depth. I don’t think we need to worry much though. I know I am in a very clear minority but I do not believe the Libs will win. It is not wishful thinking because I no longer care deeply, I just think that Team Abbott is offering very little except worry about what they may or may not do. When they all started wearing blue ties I knew absolutely that simple minds are at work.
