Splashed across the front page of The Daily Terrorgraph, Rupert Murdoch’s low brow Sydney tabloid is the following headline: Exclusive: School excursions hit by Swan budget cuts Taking The Lunch Money The story is written by Steve Lewis, the “journalist” responsible for the “Utegate” fabrication, and up to his eyeballs in the Slippergate scandal as well. With a pedigree like that, i guess we shouldn’t expect too much from him. It claims: CHILDREN visiting federal parliament will be deprived of free bottled water and fruit treats as Treasurer Wayne Swan plays Grinch to school groups. In the latest budget crackdown even teachers who shepherd the kids through the building will no longer get tea and coffee — all for a saving of $235,000 a year.

You can just about set your watch by it. Every time there is a Newspoll out in the field, the Murdoch owned News Limited fish wrappers will run a story on a supposed leadership challenge by Kevin Rudd against the Prime Minister Julia Gillard. This weekend is no exception. Newspoll is of course run by News Limited, and they are currently working the phones as I write this. Beyond doubt one of the questions they will be asking is about who voters would prefer as Prime Minister, Ms Gillard or Mr Rudd. You can bet  your house on it. To gee things up a bit on this (apparently) burning issue, one of the News Limited rags always publishes an article on an alleged leadership challenge

Tony Abbott has made much ado lately about tainted votes in Parliament. Let’s examine just how many tainted votes each side actually has. By The Derp’s reckoning there are a total of 8 tainted votes between the House Of Representatives and The Senate. First cab off the rank (pun intended) is of course The Speaker of The House Of Representatives, Peter Slipper. Mr Slipper is accused of rorting the Cabcharge system and of sexually harassing a staff member, James Ashby (see Slippergate Smells A Lot Like Utegate and Slippergate Update May 5 2012). Mr Slipper is an Independent, so the score so far is: ALP – 0 IND – 1 LNP – 0 Second tainted vote is that of Craig Thomson. Mr Thomson is accused

At his address to the National Press Club (NPC), serial buffoon Joe Hockey unleashed even more buffoonery, with a LARGE dose of hypocrisy thrown in for good measure. He began his address with the story of “Sam” the local corner shop owner who is having trouble staying afloat because, among other things, shoppers can get a litre of milk from Coles or Woolies for $1. Hockey blamed this on the government, and of course the (as yet) non-existent carbon tax. Is Hockey saying that Coles and Woolies should immediately raise their prices so “Sam” can survive? Or the government should compensate “Sam” because he doesn’t have the clout of the supermarket behemoths? Perhaps he is saying the supermarket duopoly should be split up so that

(Special thanks to Space Kidette and BH from Poll Bludger for their input into this article). Joe Hockey has once again proven what an economic buffoon he is, and how dangerous he would be to the Australian economy if he becomes Treasurer. He recently sent out this email to his fan base: Dear subscriber, When Wayne Swan and Labor bring down their Budget next week, they will try and tell you that they can deliver their first surplus since 1990. But in reality, all Labor will be doing is using tricky accounting in an effort to concoct a surplus from this year’s $40 billion deficit. How can we believe Labor when they have delivered the four biggest Budget deficits on record in the last 4

Last week, WA Premier Colin Barnett (pictured left), had to make an embarrassing back down over his attempt to take away pensioner’s compensation payments from the Commonwealth for the Carbon Price. Less than a week later, he’s once again shown exactly where the Liberal Party’s heart lies. He has refused to accept grants for public schools in WA at the same time as private schools are busy signing up to receive them. Under the Empowering Local Schools initiative, schools can access a grant of between $40,000 and $50,000. Over 30 private schools have signed up to receive the grants. WA Catholic Education Office director, Mr Ron Dullard (now there’s an ironic name if ever there was one), has welcomed the initiative, saying “It does allow
